Quintana CCC Rookie of the Year, Softball Picks Up Two All-CCC

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Jolie Quintana of the Suffolk softball team was named the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Year, the league office announced. In addition to her major award, Quintana was named to the conference's second-team along with Jenny Jacob.

The pair was instrumental to Suffolk punching its first CCC postseason berth as the Rams built a 10-8 league ledger and 20-18 overall record to lock up the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament.

Quintana was a production machine at the plate. The freshman, who played most of her time at second base and batted in the top of the order, led the blue-and-gold bats in hits (40) including 13 doubles. The right-handed hitter brought in 22 runs on a .367/.398/.514 slash line and scored 21 herself. The rookie was nearly perfect in the field with just three miscues in her 71 total chances for a .958 field percentage.

A native of Lynn, Massachusetts, Quintana is the first major award winner for Suffolk in the CCC era. She is the first Ram to collect a conference's rookie of the year status since Payton Sylvester did so in 2018. She is the third ever Suffolk student-athlete to be tabbed a conference's best rookie in a season.

Jacob was one of the most commanding twirlers in the league this season. The right-handed hurler from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, compiled the second-best ERA in the conference at 1.44. The junior proved to be a strikeout pitcher with 118 punchouts, 8.91 Ks per game, both of which sit second in the league. She worked 92.9 innings over 18 appearances, 12 starts and built a 9-3 record with 10 complete games and four shutouts.

Jacob is the first Rams' pitcher to collect an all-conference recognition from the CCC.

Since joining and play in the CCC last season in 2021, Suffolk now has collected seven all-league distinctions: one rookie of the year, one first-team, four second-team and one third-team nods. When combined with the GNAC honors, the Rams have 93 all-league awards: six player players of the year, three rookies of the year, one pitcher of the year, three coaches of the year, 39 first-team, 25 second-team and 10 third-team honorees.

Suffolk's season continues tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4 when the CCC Tournament gets underway. The fourth-seeded Rams will take on the fifth-seeded Leopards of Wentworth in Game 2A at 12:15 p.m. at the Softball Complex on the campus of Endicott at Beverly, Massachusetts.
