Second Inning Sends Emmanuel Past Softball in Five, 9-1

BOSTON – Suffolk softball fell behind early as the Saints scored eight runs in the second inning, which proved to be enough to take down the Rams, 9-1, in five innings Wednesday at Clemente Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Emmanuel 9
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-12) | Emmanuel (14-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Emmanuel's electric second stanza erased Suffolk's early one-run edge. The Saints batted around to put the Rams in a seven-run, 8-1, hole after 1.5 innings.

Suffolk had chances to chip away at the gap in the second and fourth as Bianca Luciano and Cifaratta each laced a double in those respective innings. Tianne Dawe held the Rams at second as the twirler took care of business in each of those frames to keep Emmanuel in front comfortably.

Madison Marks turned on the mercy-rule with her second long ball of the day, a solo shot to start the fifth.

With the run-rule turned on, Luciano singled down the left field line to lead of the home half of the inning. Caitlin Murphy followed suit with a base hit of her own. Dawe took control from there as she retired the side from there, including a pair of punchouts, to lock up the five-inning triumph for the Saints.
