BOSTON – Suffolk softball takes a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday, April 19 when it visits UMass Boston. The Beantown double feature has a 3 p.m. game one start.

Behind the pitching of Jenny Jacob, Suffolk softball blanked Curry, 6-0, in the nightcap of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) double feature at D. Forbes Will Field Saturday afternoon.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk snapped a five-game skid Saturday as it swept Curry in a CCC twinbill to move to 16-10 on the season.  

Jolie Quintana is powering the Rams' offense as the freshman, who is batting .423/.449/.634, has 30 hits. She has brought in 20 runs and scored 16 runs herself. Ava Brandow and Caitlin Murphy have 29 hits apiece. The former is hitting .362 and has a team-best 26 RBI to go along with 10 runs scored. Murphy, meanwhile has scored 22 times, stole 16 bases and owns 11 RBI.  

Jenny Jacob anchors Suffolk's staff. The junior right-handed twirler holds a 1.29 ERA over 12 appearances, eight starts with a 6-2 record, one save and seven complete games. She has fanned a team-high 74 batters. Alexa White (29.1 IP, 3.10 ERA, 22 K), Kennedy Reyes (27.1 IP, 3.84 ERA, 16 K) and Brandow (3.91 ERA, 28.2 IP, 21 K) round out the Rams' rotation of usual starters. 

BEACONS BREAKDOWN
UMass Boston s 16-12 on the season, but looks to bounce back from its pair of setbacks to UMass Dartmouth on Patriots Day.  

Sydney Sanden paves the way at the plate with 29 hits and 19 RBI on a .372 production rate at the dish. She has scored 13 runs and swiped four bags. Haley Tilberry has supplied 24 hits, seven RBI and 12 runs scored.   

In the circle, Brianna Melchionda and Emily Doble are the Beacons usual starters. Melchionda brings in a 1.39 ERA over 11 appearances, all starts, with 91 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of work. Doble holds a 2.18 ERA that she built in her 67.1 innings over 13 appearances, 11 starts, with 33 punchouts. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and UMass Boston will meet for the first time since March 10, 2018. The Rams won that battle, 10-1, in five innings. 
  • The Rams are 7-14 all-time against the Beacons. 
  • The blue-and-gold looks to defeated UMass Boston in bac-to-back battles for the first time since March 29, 2001 – March 30, 2000.
  • The Rams longest win streak against the Beacons was three wins in a row April 1, 1999-March 29, 2001.
  • Suffolk is 1-3 when playing at UMB.
  • Two games have been decided via run-rule. Suffolk is 1-1 in mercy-rule decisions. 
  • There has been one shutout in the all-time series. UMass Boston won that via 11-0 decision April 13, 2010.
