Western New England Downs Softball in Game Two, 3-1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk softball slipped in the nightcap of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader to Western New England, 3-1, Wednesday night at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Western New England 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-8, 5-3 CCC) | Western New England (17-8, 7-1 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk as it put a run on the board in the first frame just like the opener and once again Caitlin Murphy was responsible for the run. The senior wore a pitch to lead off, stole second and turned on her running shoes when Jolie Quintana barreled a double to left field.

A new ball game stood a half inning later as the Golden Bears made up the ground. Alex Ferriouolo singled through the left side to get the frame going and hopped over to third on back-to-back infield ground outs. Lily Gustafsonlooked to grab the final out of the frame when Megan Marquardt popped up high in-between short and third. Suffolk's shortstop dropped the ball though, which allowed Ferrioulo to cross home and tie things up.

Western New England went ahead an inning later. Taylor Keegan led off with a double to center, moved over on Kaleigh Blade sac bunt and scored thanks to Dina DiBlasio's single to second.

Things stayed 2-1 Golden Bears until the top of the fifth when DiBlasio rocked a dinger to right to add insurance for the visitors.

Down two, 3-2, Suffolk never made up ground as it stranded a runner in each of its next three turns at the dish.
