Franklin Pierce Shutouts Softball, 4-0

MYRTLE BEACH – Franklin Pierce limited Suffolk softball's offense and kept the Rams off the scoreboard to take a 4-0 decision over the blue-and-gold at the Fastpitch Dreams Softball Classic Sunday afternoon at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Franklin Piece 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (0-2) | Franklin Pierce (3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself down early as Franklin Pierce scored one in the home halves of the first and third, respectively, to take a two-run lead it never let go of.

To start the outing, the Ravens went on a two-out rally when Ashley Cangiano drew a base on balls to keep the inning going. Cangiano swiped second to get into scoring position, which set Susannah Cam up for an RBI on her single to center field.

Cangiano factored into the scoring in the third as well. This time she struck a base hit before stealing second. FPU's catcher ran in thanks to Lita Vorseth's double to center.

Franklin Pierce doubled the distance in the bottom of the sixth and Suffolk found itself in a 4-0 hole as the game headed to the top of the seventh.

Abby Primavera got the first two outs quickly and managed to strike Caitlin Murphy out swinging, however, Cangiano dropped the pitch and Murphy beat the throw to first to keep the inning alive. A Suffolk comeback was put to rest when Primavera wrapped up the outing with a ground out to short.
