Softball’s Game Two Rally Falls Short Against UNE, 11-7

BOSTON – Suffolk softball fell behind early, pulled back, but could not complete the comeback against the University of New England Tuesday night at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 11 | UNE 7
RECORDS: Suffolk (9-15, 5-7 CCC) | UNE (3-1, 2-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams found themselves chasing seven after three complete innings as Nor'Easter long balls played a factor early on.

Suffolk sliced the deficit down to four after three Rams runs came in in the bottom of the fourth. Singles played a factor in the scoring as Brooke CloakSavannah Scripter and Kelly Keane each collected one RBI on a base hit. Hailey Cockroft and Ally Cifaratta knocked back-to-back singles to open the inning and were responsible for scoring the first two Suffolk runs.

UNE pushed the gap to six after scoring once in the fifth and sixth, respectively. The distance grew even further in the seventh as the Nor'Easters put a pair more of runs on the board to take an 11-3 advantage.

Suffolk had one more go to make moves and it did. Caitlin Murphy started things off with a double to left field and dove into third, beating the throw, to get into prime scoring position for Cifaratta's sac fly to left. Ashley Zulla singled to advance Cockroft, who reached on fielder's choice, to third. Cockroft came in behind Cloak's ground out to second before Scripter sent a ball over the fence to trim the margin down to four, 11-7.

The rally ended on Keane's ground out to short, which sealed the setback.
