Davis Wins 200th, Softball Takes Game Two at Wentworth, 6-1, to Sweep Series

BOSTON – Ally Cifaratta and Caitlin Murphy each provided three hits and Kennedy Reyes tossed a stand-up game as Suffolk softball defeated Wentworth, 6-1, in the nightcap of a CCC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Carr Diamond. The victory marks head coach Jaclyn Davis' 400 career win.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Wentworth 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-12, 5-5 CCC) | Wentworth (0-6, 0-4 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored in pairs over the first two innings to grab a 4-0 advantage. In the first, Caitlin Murphy singled to left, stole second, and advanced to third thanks to Bianca Luciano's sac bunt. Ally Cifaratta's single down the left field line brought the first run of the day in. A wild pitch let Cifaratta reach second before the sophomore scored on the next play. After the Leopards successfully field a ground out to third on Ashley Zulla's at bat, Wentworth's twirler had a hiccup, which Cifaratta capitalized on to put the second run of the day on the board.

An inning later, Brooke Cloak led things off with a single up the middle. Two outs later, Murphy doubled down the left field line to give Ira Boci two ducks in the pond. The freshman's single up the middle scored the duo to double the distance, 4-0.

Two more Rams runs came in the top of the fourth. Murphy once again played a part. The junior singled to center field and sniped second. Very similar to the first frame, Murphy took third when Luciano put the ball into play. Cifaratta collected her second RBI on the day when she brought in Murphy for the second time, this time with a single to left field. Two hitters later, Cifaratta raced in when Savannah Scripter connected on pitch. Cifaratta beat the throw to make it a 6-0 Suffolk game after 3.5 outings.

The Rams had a chance to extend things even further in the fifth as the bases were chucked on two hits and a Leopards error, however, Wentworth managed to get out of the jam and keep the score the same.

Wentworth erased the shutout in the home half of the fifth. The Rams limited the hosts to just one run to maintain a 6-1 margin.

Suffolk was limited to a single base runner in the final two frames, while Kennedy Reyes retired the side in the sixth and wrapped things up in the seventh to secure the win and series sweep.
