Seventh Stanza Sends Softball Past Emmanuel, 8-3, in Nightcap

BOSTON – Suffolk softball surged late, scoring twice in the sixth, and put up six runs in the seventh to come back and take down Emmanuel, 8-3, in game two of a non-conference double feature Thursday night at Roberto Clemente Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 8 | Emmanuel 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-6) | Emmanuel (1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A three-run second stanza from Emmanuel forced Suffolk to play catch-up. The Rams did not make up any ground in the third or fourth despite having base runners to capitalize on.

A Rams reply did come though. In the sixth stanza Bianca Luciano wore a pitch to lead off and advance to scoring position on Ashley Zulla's single to left field. Savannah Scripter's single to right field brought in the first blue-and-gold runner, before Zulla took advantage of an error by the Saints' right fielder to cut the gap down to one, 3-2.

Similar to the series opener, Suffolk entered the final inning down one with runners on first and second. History did not repeat itself this time though. The tying run came in on a bloop by Emmanuel's third baseman. Zulla played the hero card with her visit to the dish. The senior catcher barreled a single down the right field line to bring in the go-ahead run and an insurance tally to flip the script, 5-3 Suffolk.

The Saints made a change in the circle with Grace Orcutt coming in in relief. Another mishap from the hosts kept the inning going and allowed three more Rams runs to score for the final 8-3 margin.
