Men’s Cross Country Takes 10th at NCAA DIII East Regionals

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Suffolk men's cross country put together a top-10 finish at the NCAA Division III East Regionals Saturday on the course on Bowdoin College's campus. 

The Rams combined for 78 points to lock up 10th in the 33-team regional race. Suffolk had the best showing of its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterparts, finishing ahead of Endicott (14), Wentworth (16), Gordon (17), the University of New England (23) and Nichols (24).  

Thomas Novy paced Suffolk's pack as the sophomore came through the finisher's chute in 27:40.0 to claim 56th in the 233-runner field. 

Tim Barry was 10 spots behind Novy thanks to his time of 27:57.9. 

Selvin Backert crossed the tape in 28:14.7 to place 74th and Cole Bolduc was five spots later in 28:56. 

Hayden Green looged a 28:36.7, good for 86th. Connor Hayward put together a regional-best time and finish of a 90th-place performance on a time of 28:43.1. Conor Garrity, meanwhile, rounded out the Rams as he logged a 29:08.5 in his first regionals to take 110th.  

The East Regional was one of 10 events hosted on Saturday throughout the country as teams and student-athletes aimed to punch their respective tickets to the NCAA Division III Championships, on tap for next Saturday, Nov. 19 at Forest Akers East Golf Course in Lansing, Mich.

The winner of each regional received an automatic bid to the biggest race of the season, while the NCAA DIII Cross Country Committee will then select 22 at-large teams in each gender and 70 student-athletes for at-large bids. The 70 additional participants are award to the top seven runners in each region not attached to a team.  

The entire field for the men's and women's cross country championships will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 12 via afternoon press release on NCAA.com.
