Men’s Cross Country Claims 13th at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Suffolk men's cross country finished 13th at the 49th UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday. 

The 5-mile Coach Robert Dowd Cross Country Course pitted Suffolk against some of the best in the region and the Rams combined for 364 points to wrap up 13th in the 36-team field. The finish was the best of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) programs that competed, ahead of Roger Williams (456) and Western new England (888). 

Five Rams in the varsity race ran the 5-mile for the first time in their careers including the top three Suffolk finishers in Sean Jacobsen (26:12.64), Thomas Novy (26:22.17) and Hayden Green (26:37.56). Jacobsen came claimed 50th with Novy eight spots behind the freshman. Green, meanwhile, finished 73rd out of 282.  

Tim Barry and Luke Sikora came through the chute one after another. Barry's 27:00.38 put the junior in 100th. Sikora, meanwhile, clocked a 27:01.55 in his first 5-mile to take 101st. 

Connor Hayward and Selvin Backert completed Suffolk's point earners. The former took 107th behind a 27:09.76 showing with the latter producing a personal-best of 27:16.30 to take 116th. 

Justin Turner (27:48.96), Cole Bolduc (27:57.31), Conor Garrity (28:12.56), Jacob Dubin (28:33.16), Shea Duffy(28:36.05) and Patrick Lambe (29:37.33) all were battled tested in the varsity race and finished within the top 66 percent. The trio of Turner, Garrity and Duffy all logged personal records in the race, while Dubin and Lambe competed in the 5-mile for the first time in their collegiate careers.  

The quartet of Nathan Bowlan (29:46.09), Jadan Wenceslao (30:39.31), Nico Miele (30:52.02) and Michael Najarian (36:04.52) donned blue-and-gold in the JV race. 

Suffolk heads to Brunswick, Maine, next Saturday, Sept. 24 for the Bowdoin Invitational.
