Men’s Cross Country Runs to Sixth at Short Course Classic

BOSTON – Suffolk men's cross country turned in a sixth-place performance at the Short Course Classic Friday at Franklin Park. 

The Rams combined for 160 points good for sixth in the 15-team field. The blue-and-gold was right behind Eastern Connecticut State (143) to be the second Division III team finisher overall, while spots one through four went to Northeastern, Brown, Boston University and Holy Cross.  

Tim Barry led the way for the Rams runners as the junior turned in a 5k personal best of 16:21.6 to claim 21st in the 167-runner field.  

Hayden Green and Sean Jacobsen made the most out of their collegiate debuts as the freshmen placed within the top 35. Green claimed 32nd with a time of 16:49.3 and Jacobsen sealed up 35th, clocking in at 16:51.3. 

Connor Hayward came through the finisher's chute in 17:20.8 to take 56th and Justin Turner was two spots behind him with a personal-record of 17:30.1.  

Cole Bolduc completed the top seven Rams runners and crossed the tape in 17:478 to take 75th. 

Selvin Backert (17:57.9), Conor Garrity (18:01.4), Shea Duffy (18:37.5) logged personal bests in the event. Patrick Lambe (18:05.7), Nico Miele (20:02.2) made their cross country debuts. Nathan Bowlan (19:54.4) and Michael Najarian (23:42.3) competed collegiately for the first time. Zachary Martin (21:07.3), Ben Berman (21:27.5) and Thomas Fidrocki (22:44.5) raced a 5k for the first time in their careers. Jacob Dubin (18:32.2) was featured in the field as well. 

Suffolk has a week off before the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17.
