Barry, Turner Share Captain Role for 2022 Men’s Cross Country

BOSTON – Suffolk men's cross country will have a new set of captains as head coach Will Feldman unveiled that Tim Barry and Justin Turner will share the role in 2022.

"Tim and Justin are perfect balances for one another," Feldman said. "They each have different things that our team needs, and between the two of them I know we're in great hands this season."

Barry and Turner are the second group of captains in the Feldman era and take over for the trio of Matyas Csiki-Fejer '22, Nic Malm '22 and Hunter Toyoda '22, who have led the squad as tri-captains since the 2019 campaign.

"Justin has been the definition of consistency and reliability ever since entering our program," Feldman said. "You know exactly what you're going to get from Justin every day. He's always engaged, and ready to work hard no matter the circumstances. I've yet to see him nervous or a moment too big for him. He's a true steadying force for the team. As a coach it's been a pleasure to watch him grow from a quiet reserved freshmen into a confident leader who our team looks up to."

Feldman continued, "Barry will be one of our top athletes this season and could be a CCC individual champion and a NCAA qualifier this fall. Tim provides a level of emotion and intensity that our squad needs this year as we look to win CCC's and earn a spot at Nationals. It's unfair to compare anyone to Matyas (Csiki-Fejer), but Tim has the same desire and intensity to be great. I have no doubt he will motivate his teammates this year, and hold everyone to a high standard."

With the co-captains at the head of the program, Suffolk aims to capture its first conference crown in program history after a runner-up finish at CCC's a year ago.

To get the season started, the Rams will host and race at the Short Course Classic Friday, Sept. 2 at Franklin Park.
