Men’s Cross Country Wins Battle for Boston Commons

BOSTON – For the third consecutive time, Suffolk men's cross country captured the Battle for Boston Commons, a head-to-head dual with Emerson, 15-47, Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park.

Since 2018, Suffolk and Emerson have raced one another for bragging rights. The Rams took home the inaugural title in 2018 and has yet to let the trophy leave Beacon Hill. Runners in blue-and-gold grabbed the first five spots in the 19-runner field to help Suffolk secure the title.

Matyas Csiki-Fejer outran the entire field, finishing the 8k-course in 25:24, nearly three minutes ahead of his teammate Thomas Novy, who clocked a personal-best of 28:10. Connor Hayward was 20 seconds after his teammate with senior Nic Malm (28:40) and sophomore Selvin Backert (28:56) right on the freshman's heels as well.

Emerson's Olivier Glass (29:08) and Joe Norris (29:39) slipped to break up the bunch of Rams that came through the finisher's chute. In between the Lions' Luke Sikora crossed the tape in 29:17 to take seventh. After Norris six Suffolk student athletes finished in spots ninth through 14th in Justin Turner (29:46), Kely Maloney (29:52), Cole Bolduc (30:01), Hunter Toyoda (30:26), Arthur Lacerda (30:55), and Conor Garrity (31:13).

Shea Duffy (31:26) and Jacob Dubin (31:33) rounded out the Rams in 16th and 17th, respectively.

Suffolk turns its attention to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, which is on the scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30 at Western New England.
