BEVERLY, Mass. – Owen Campbell of the Suffolk men's outdoor track & field team earned Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Rookies of the Week after his performance at the Sean Collier Invitational over the weekend.
The freshman, who hails from Huntington Beach, California, put together a personal-best in the pole vault. He cleared 3.95 meters to capture fifth in the field of seven.
Campbell is the first member of the men's outdoor track & field program to collect a weekly award this season. He is the first Ram to take home a weekly distinction from the CCC since April 3, 2023 when Thomas Novy and Hayden Green were named the best track athlete and best track rookie over a seven-day span. Campbell's field athlete recognition is the first for the blue-and-gold since Michael Balestra was named CCC Field Athlete of the Week April 25, 2022. He is the second-ever Rams rookie to be tabbed CCC Field Rookie of the Week in program history, first since Edward Abouzeid collected the recognition April 4, 2022.
Campbell and the Rams now turn their attention to the CCC Championships which get underway Thursday, April 25 with the steeplechase at Gordon College. The league meet then transitions to Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island Friday, April 26 with the winners being crowded Saturday, April 27.
