Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Starts Year at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field got its 2023 underway over the weekend at the BSU Bears Invitational. 

Tim Barry headlined the Rams at the event as he won the 400 behind a personal-record of 52.38 to top the 30-runner event that featured Nico Miele, who finished 15th behind a time of 56.19.

Suffolk saw five runners in the 100 in Cole Bolduc (11.94), Turner Mitchell (11.96), John Avakian (12.55), Kai Mohammed (13.17) and Ben Berman (13.84). Avakian (24.75and Mitchell (25.23) raced in the 200 as well.  

Rams made up 14 runners in the 55-runner 1500 event. The trio of Luke SikoraKely Maloney and Thomas Novy all logged personal-best to take a spot in the top-10. Sikora clocked a 4:10.60, good for sixth. Maloney was one spot behind Sikora with a 4:11.59 and Novy notched a 4:13.02 to capture 10th. Justin Turner (13th – 4:16.58), Hayden Green (14th - 4:16.97), Sean Jacobsen (16th – 4:22.53) and Connor Hayward (19th – 4:23.28) all claimed spots in the top-20. 

Patrick Lambe rounded out the Rams individual runs with a 24th-place performance in the 5000 thanks to a time of 17:40.75.  

The quartet of Mitchell, Bolduc, David Bowes and Trey Maroon combined for a sixth-place showing in the 4x100 relay.  

Joshua Catino took seventh in the pole vault, clearing 2.90 in his outdoor debut and Mohammed leapt 4.72 meters in the long jump. 

Eddie McCarthy and Michael Power competed together in the shot put and discus. Power was also in the hammer throw field that featured Frank Irizarry and Joshua Smith. Both Edward Abouzeid and John Roy represented the Rams in the javelin.  

Suffolk will be back in action next weekend, March 31-April 1 at two different events. William & Mary's Colonial Relays get the weekend underway Friday with Tufts' Snowflake Classic on tap on Saturday.
