Outdoor Track & Field Opens Season at BSU Bears Invitational

BOSTON – Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field will pull the curtain back on its 2023 slate at the BSU Bears Invitational Saturday, March 25. The event is set for a 10:00 a.m. start at Bridgewater State.

RAPID REWIND

Both of Suffolk's squads had the heaviest outdoor schedules to date a year ago. As teams, the men's squad captured the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship and went on to post the best showing at NCAA Division III Regionals, finishing 16th in the 31-team field. The women, meanwhile, had a podium finish at the conference championships with a young team. 

COACH'S CORNER
Will Feldman enters his sixth year at the helm of the Suffolk cross country and track & field programs. 

He has coached the Rams to eight different team league titles and has led two student-athletes to three All-America honors. 

THE FIELD
Eighteen teams will join Suffolk in Bridgewater, Massachusetts Saturday inducing the Rams' CCC counterparties Nichols, Roger Williams, Slave Regina and Wentworth. Joining Suffolk in Bridgewater, Massachusetts Saturday.  

COACH'S QUOTES
"We are excited to get our season started this Saturday at Bridgewater state," Will Feldman said. "We're using this weekend to shake off the rust and get back into the competitive mindset. Many of our track athletes will be competing in their secondary events to start this season."

RAMS REVIEW [ MEN ] 

  • Suffolk's hammer throwers – Frank IrizarryJoshua Smith and Michael Power – will open up their campaigns, all of whom have All-CCC potential.  
  • John Roy and Edward Abouzeid will throw the javelin on Saturday. Roy is one of the top Rams rookies, while Abouzeid was runner-up in the event at the CCC Championships a year ago. 
  • On the track, numerous athletes will race the 1500. Sean Jacobsen and Hayden Green aim to establish themselves as potential regional qualifiers. 
  • In the 110 hurdles freshman Trey Maroon looks to punch his ticket to regionals as well, pending inclement weather. 

RAMS ROUND-UP [ WOMEN ] 

  • Gracie O'Connell in the hammer throw is someone to watch out for. After a breakout indoor season in the weight throw, which should translate into big personal records in the hammer throughout the outdoor campaign. 
  • The trio of Julia LeaveyIsabelle Slocum and Catherine Madden will look to establish themselves as the class of the CCC in the hurdles. The threesome has potential to be All-CCC in the event this year and qualify for regionals. 
  • Amanda WaldenEmily ConcepcionLauren Wood and Alyssa Rodriguez will make up the women's 4x100 and look to break the Rams' record in the event. 

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk will split up next weekend for two different events: William & Mary's Colonial Relays, which start on Friday, March 31, and Tufts' Snowflake Classic Saturday, April 1.
