Csiki-Fejer, Balestra Compete at NEICAAA Championship

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For the second time in as many seasons, Matyas Csiki-Fejer and Michael Balestra of the Suffolk men's outdoor track & field represented the Rams at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championship at the Track & Turf Complex on the campus of Bryant University.

Once again, Csiki-Fejer, a native of Manchester, Missouri, did not let the pressure of the historic, 130-year-old meet get the best of him. The senior long-distance runner clocked a 3:50.18 to claim fifth in the 24-runner field. For his effort, which sits 39th on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List and is the sixth-best performance in the event in New England by a DIII student-athlete this year. For his effort and top-8 finish, Csiki-Fejer collected All-NEICAAA status for the second time in his collegiate career.

Balestra had a career-best showing at one of the oldest track & field meets in the country. He logged a 52.07-meter throw in the hammer, which upstaged his 48.65-meter toss from a year ago. The senior from Lincoln, Rhode Island, took 15th in the 22-participant field, over the weekend.

The twosome made up a third of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) student-athletes to compete at the regional championship meet as Nichols and Wentworth sent a pair of student-athletes to the meet as well.

Suffolk has one final regular-season meet left, MIT's Final Qualifier, Thursday, May 19 at 5 p.m.
