Men’s Track & Field Grab Four Major Awards from CCC

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field had quite the award haul as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced the inaugural major award winners.

Voting for the major awards was conducted by the five CCC men's track & field head coaches during the week following the CCC Championships. All-conference distinction, meanwhile, is determined at the CCC Championship meet. Gold medal winners earn First-Team All-CCC with silver medalist being named to the second-team and bronze medalist recognized as third teamers.

Earning the distinction as the first-ever CCC Men's Track Athlete of the Year is Suffolk senior standout Matyas Csiki-Fejer, while Brady Sorensen secured CCC Men's Track Rookie of the Year. Both Csiki-Fejer and Sorensen were triple-gold recipients at the CCC Championships April 30. Csiki-Fejer was honored for his academic prowess as well as CCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while head coach Will Feldman was named the first-ever CCC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Csiki-Fejer, a product of Manchester, Missouri, proved once against that he was one of the best distance runners in all of NCAA Division IIII this spring. His best event was the 5K, in which he currently ranks sixth on the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List with a time of 14:09.18. The long-distance runner set that mark at the Duke Invitational where he finished third in a field that included some of the top NCAA Division I teams in the country. At the CCC Championships, Csiki-Fejer took home three goals. He won the 5K with a time of 15:05.19, has also paced the field in the 800 at t1:58.37 and the 1500 at 3:59.92. Leading up to the conference meet, he set a 1500 personal-record at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational with a time of 3:54.84. For his performances throughout the season he picked up for CCC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

As incredible as he was on the track, Csiki-Fejer was just as impressive in the classroom en route to CCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition. It is second CCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award this year as he took home the same title for men's cross country. The law and public policy major currently holds an unblemished 4.0 GPA and has been honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American twice with a spot on the second team in 2021-22 after garnering a fourth-team selection the year prior. He is the second Suffolk student-athlete to earn a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and was the youngest Ram to earn the distinction in school history. He has also been recognized for his work in the classroom by the USTFCCCA, CCC and GNAC. He is a seven-time member of the Suffolk 4.0 club and a seven-time AD Honor Roll selection.

Sorensen was a speedster on the track for Suffolk during his sophomore season and qualified for New England Regionals in the 100 and 200 dashes, respectively. The Plymouth, Massachusetts, native took gold in both races at the CCC Championships with respective times of 11.04 and 22.56. He was lao a remember of the Suffolk 4x100 relay team comprised of Jonathan GarulaTurner Mitchell and Robert Solari that took third place at the conference meet with a time of 43.95. For his efforts at the conference championship he was named Track Rookie of the Week. He also competed in the long jump and placed atop the podium.

Feldman's peers elected him the first CCC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year honor after leading Suffolk to the inaugural CCC crown. The Rams scored 162 points at the meet, out pacing their closest competitor by nearly 40 points. The blue-and-gold received a lot of help from their eight individual champions, six of which belonged to Csiki-Fejer and Sorensen.

Suffok's season continues this weekend at the NEICAAA Championships for the Rams that qualified.
