Outdoor Track & Field Ready for Regionals


BOSTON – The Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field student-athletes who qualified will take their talents to Western Massachusetts this weekend for the 2022 New England Regional Championships hosted by Williams at Lee Track May 6-7. The Rams will be represented by six men and three women across 13 individual events, as well as four relay teams in Williamstown.

RAMS AT NEW ENGLANDS

  • Suffolk heads to outdoor regionals for the first time since 2019. 
  • The men will make their second such triple, while the women will be represented at New Englands for the third time in program history with female Rams competing in 2018 and 2019, respectively. 
  • Suffolk's men have finished as high as 31st, while the women have put together a 20th-place team performance. 
  • Both the men's and women's squads have only sent two student-athletes to regionals in any single season to compete. This year, both teams will be represented by the most Rams in program history. The men are sending six individual men and two different relay teams, while the women will see three individuals compete and two relay squads.  

RAMS AT REGIONALS

  • Suffolk made its regional debut in 2018 with a pair of women competing in two different events. 
  • In 2019, the Rams men's and women's team sent two student athletes in two different events. 
  • Brady Sorensen will represent the blue-and-gold in three individual events and run on a relay team, the most by a Ram in program history. 
  • Matyas Csiki-Fejer will also compete in multiple events. 
  • Michael Balestra and Matyas Csiki-Fejer return to regionals for the second time in their career. They join Emma Weisse as the second-ever Suffolk student-athletes to participate at outdoor regionals twice in their careers. 
  • A Ram has never won an individual title at the regional championship.
  • All, but two, Michael Balestra and Matyas Csiki-Fejer, of Suffolk's student-athletes compete this weekend will be making their outdoor regional debut.

RAMS REGIONAL RANKINGS

  • Entering the weekend, Suffolk's men's team was ranked 11th in the latest East Regional poll, the highest the Rams have ever been tabbed. 
  • Michael Balestra heads into the weekend as the top-ranked student-athlete in the hammer throw. 
  • Matyas Csiki-Fejer lands in the top-10 in the 5k (third) and 1500 (10th).
  • Brady Sorensen holds the eighth-best performance in the long jump in New England.
  • Caitlyn Filloramo brings in the eighth-best hammer throw in the region.

WHAT'S UP FOR GRABS?
Top eight finishers in each event will earn All-New England honors. Only three Rams – Michael Balestra (hammer throw), Emma Weisse (10k) and Emily Manfra (1500) -- have earned outdoor all-region honors. all of which came in 2019.

LAST TIME OUT [ MEN ] 
Suffolk made history on Saturday, winning the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Track and Field Championship with a team score of 162 at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The Rams topped the five-team field, outscoring its closest opponent by nearly 40 points.

Suffolk used eight individual champions to lock up the first-ever CCC crown.

LAST TIME OUT [ WOMEN ] 
Suffolk women's outdoor track & field finished third at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships Saturday at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Rams saw nine podium finishes and three individual conference champions to finish with 113 team points, 3.5 points behind runner-up Endicott and 13.5 away from champion Gordon.

RAMS RECOGNITION [ MEN ] 
After coming away with the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship trophy at Saturday's meet at the Brigham Athletic Complex on the campus of Gordon College, Suffolk men's outdoor track & field saw two Rams land weekly awards, the league office unveiled Monday. Matyas Csiki-Fejer was deemed track athlete of the week for the fourth time this season, while Brady Sorensen's name was called for the first time this year as the track rookie of the week.

RAMS RECOGNITION [ WOMEN ]
