Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Adds Two CCC Weekly Honors

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – After coming away with the inaugural Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship trophy at Saturday's meet at the Brigham Athletic Complex on the campus of Gordon College, Suffolk men's outdoor track & field saw two Rams land weekly awards, the league office unveiled Monday. Matyas Csiki-Fejer was deemed track athlete of the week for the fourth time this season, while Brady Sorensen's name was called for the first time this year as the track rookie of the week.

Csiki-Fejer shined at the CCC meet, winning three events to help guide Suffolk to the first outdoor championship in CCC history. The senior from Manchester, Missouri led the pack in the 1500 (3:59.92), the 800 (1:58.37), and the 5k (15:05.19). The senior captain now owns the Division III East Region's top time in the 5k, the fourth best time in the 1500, and, following Saturday's effort, has moved to the 38th best time in the 800.

Sorenson's first weekly honor comes after an impressive showing at the CCC meet, where the Plymouth, Massachusetts, native also finished a triple-gold winner, taking home the top spot in the 100 (11.04), 200 (22.56), and the long jump (6.71-meters). The sophomore qualified for regionals in all three events and now owns some of the East Regions top marks following his sophomore campaign, with the eighth longest jump, 19th best 100 time, and 23rd best 200 time.

The Rams have been well represented regarding conference awards throughout this season, nabbing 14 weekly accolades over the past six weeks. Csiki-Fejer holds four track athlete accolades, while Michael Balestra follows him with three nods as the top field athlete. Carter Nevulis has been named track rookie of the week on two occasions, with Tim Barry and Thomas Novy owning the title one week apiece. On March 29, the conference named its first relay team of the week, consisting of four Rams from Suffolk's 4x400 relay team, including Selvin BackertRobert SolariJoshua Durand and Cole Bolduc. Sorenson's track rookie of the week concludes the weekly award slate.

Next up for both Csiki-Fejer and Sorenson and their teammates that qualified is the Division III New England Regional Championships May 6-7 at Lee Track in Williamstown, hosted by Williams College.
