Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Contends at Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field had its final prep before the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship over the weekend as the Rams took their talents to MIT's Sean Collier Invitational. A dozen different student-athletes notched personal records at the Sherie and Don Morrison Track with five Rams making their outdoor debut in different events. 

Matyas Csiki-Fejer was the main storyline of the 1500. The senior from Manchester, Missouri topped the 42-paritcipant field that feature seven runners in blue-and-gold jerseys with a personal-best, program-record time of 3:54.84. That performance improved on his already region-qualifying time of 3:58.11, which he put together at the Tufts Snowflake Classic April 2, and currently sits fourth in the NCAA Division III East region.  

Justin Turner (4:16.20), Connor Hayward (4:25.77) and Conor Garrity (4:27.55) all clocked personal-records in the event to finish in the top 25. Turner finished 17th with Hayward and Garrity claiming 23rd and 24th, respectively. Jacob Dubin (4:30.75) was just outside the top 25 in 26th with Nic Malm (4:33.18) three spots after that. Shea Duffy(4:38.04) logged a personal-best in the event as well.  

Suffolk's sprinters competed across four events.  

Robert Solari made his event debut in the 100. The senior clocked a 11.32, good for 10th in the 40-runner field. Turner Mitchell (11.78) and Jason Motta recorded personal bests. Mitchell claimed 23rd and Motta took 28th. 

Solari also registered a top-10 finish in the 200. He finished the half lap in a personal-record 22.89, good for seventh in the 32-sprinter field. Cole Bolduc raced the 200 as well and put together a time of 23.37 to take 12th. 

Bolduc cruised to eighth in the 400 and was just outside of regional qualification with a 51.71. Joshua Durand (55.04) made his debut in the event. 

A foursome of Rams was featured in the 800 in Luke Sikora (2:00.67), Evan Wright (2:05.24), Kely Maloney(2:05.41) and Arthur Lacerda (2:13.28). Sikora highlighted the group with a PR.  

Carter Nevulis notched a regional-qualifying mark in the 110 hurdles of 15.51 to take fourth in the 16-hurdler field. 

Jadan Wenceslao competed in the 3000 Steeplechase for the first time in his career and tallied a program-record of 11:10.35.

Bolduc, Turner, Evan Wright and Maloney combined forces for a first-place finish in the 4x800 relay. The quartet won the four-team field with a time of 8:29.71.

Solari's (1.76) eventful day ended with a seventh-place showing in the high jump. Jonathan Garula (6.16) made his collegiate outdoor debut in the long jump and Gavin Reid (12.34) leaped a personal-best in the triple jump. 

Fielding event wise, Suffolk had a trio of student-athletes in the hammer throw. Michael Balestra's persona-record of 52.87 meters was good enough to top the 20-thrower field. Frank Irizarry (37.86) and Matthew Smith (35.94) competed in the event as well. The latter notched a personal-best. 

Smith (34.37) also tried his hand in the discus. Eddie McCarthy (10.38) and Josh Smith (32.32) competed in the shot put and javelin, respectively.  

Suffolk will vie for a CCC Championship this weekend, Saturday, April 30 at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Compelx.
