Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Begins Action at BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER,  Mass. – The Suffolk men's track team pulled back the curtain on the 2022 season at the BSU Bears Invitation at Swenson Field on the campus of Bridgewater State Saturday, March 26.

This season-opening meet hosted teams from Division I, II and III, to give the Rams a test right from the start of their fourth campaign of competition.  

The day was highlighted by Tim Barry's second-place finish in the 1500m, where he posted a time of 4:03.19 to cross the finish line, less than two seconds after Merrimack's TJ Corliss. The sophomore's time stands at fourth in the region and first in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) thus far.

A dozen more Rams joined Barry in the 86-runner field, with Thomas Novy (4:20.30), Kely Maloney(4:20.34), Jadan Wenceslao (4:21.30), Cole Bolduc (4:21.48), and Justin Turner (4:22.26) all posting top-20 finishes. 

Robert Solari sprinted the 200 in 23.47 to take sixth in the event Saturday. The senior's time sits atop the conference to date and is the 11th-best time in region in 2022. 

John Avakian (25.12), Eduardo Silva (26.34) and Joshua Smith (24.95) joined Solari in the the half lap around the track. 

Silva (12.08) also ran the 100, along with Turner Mitchell (12.23), Jason Motta (12.68) and Gavin Reid(13.73).  

In relay action, the blue-and-gold's 4 x 400 team of Selvin Backert, Solari, Joshua Durand, and Bolduc combined for a second-place performance, trailing only Merrimack, with a time of 3:29.71. The finish sets the Rams up with a fourth-ranked regional rank, and a top league mark. 

Suffolk's 4 x 100 squad featuring Jason MottaTurner MitchellBrady Sorensenand Joshua Durandcombined for a time of 45.30, which was good for seventh-best at the invitational and seventh in the region.  

Suffolk will continue their outdoor slate with a trip to Dussault Track in place for Saturday, April 2, as the Rams will compete in the Tufts Snowflake Classic at noon.
