Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Concludes Team Season at CCC Invite

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The Suffolk men's outdoor track & field team capped off its 2021 team season with a fifth-place finish at the CCC Invite Sunday at Portsmouth High School.  

A dozen Rams set personal records, two won events and one, Matyas Csiki-Fejer cruised to a meet record, in the 2021 team finale.  

Csiki-Fejer clocked a sub-4:00.00 1500 with a time of 3:56.72 to top the 17-runner field and highlight the blue-and-gold's Sunday outing. The junior captain was joined in the field by his classmate Hunter Toyoda, who also put together a career-high time of 4:18.75 in the event to finish sixth, and Luke Sikora, who made his collegiate debut with a time of 4:36.00.  

The Rams' distance runners also competed in the 3000 and 5000. In the 3000, Jacob Dubin and Nic Malm finished one after another. Dubin's personal-best time of 9:48.88 was good for eighth, while Malm placed ninth behind a 10:07.95 performance. Thomas Fidrocki was in the field as well and clocked a PR of 10:58.66. Conor Garrity  logged a ninth-place performance in the 5000 thanks to a 17:34.79 personal record.  

Cole Bolduc had the standout showing for Suffolk's sprinters. The sophomore made his one lap around the track in 50:34 to finish as the runner-up in the 400. Arthur Lacerda, meanwhile, produced a personal-best time of 53.96.  

Matthew Mitchell competed in the 100 (12.09) and 200 (24.74). The freshman clocked career-highs in each event. Robert Solari joined Mitchell in the 200 and placed fourth out of 19 foes with a time of 23.79. 

A trio of Rams raced in the 800. Kely Maloney and Justin Turner finished inside the top six with the freshman and sophomore each yielding personal records. Maloney crossed the tape in 2:01.75 to take fourth, while Turner turned in a time of 2:04.97, good for sixth. Joseph Robinson (2:17.84) made two trips around the track as well.  

Suffolk manned a pair of 4x400 relay teams. Solari, Bolduc, Lacerda and Maloney combined for team A, which finished in 3:30.40. Malm, Fidrocki, Shea Duffy and Turner teamed up for the Ram's B squad, which finished in 4:00.83.  

Michael Balestra highlighted the field events for Suffolk with a first-place finish in the hammer throw. Balestra topped the 13-opponent field behind a 49.22-meter toss. Matt Sambucetti, meanwhile, had a personal-record throw of 37.08 to finish fourth in the event.  

The twosome participated in the discus as well and finished one in front of the other. Sambucetti's 31.60 edged out Balestra's 29.85 for seventh. 

Sambucetti also participated in the shot put where he placed in the middle of the 15-person pack with a 11.17-meter toss.  

The outing concluded Suffolk's 2021 team schedule. A selection of Rams will remain in training on campus in the hopes of making the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship field.
