Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Gordon Invite

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field participated in the Gordon Invite for the second straight weekend Saturday at the Brigham Athletic Complex.  

Even with new competition in Nichols, Salve Regina and Roger Williams joining the Rams and host Fighting Scots Suffolk shined with a pair of victories and four additional top three finishes.  

Matyas Csiki-Fejer had a standout performance in the 10000. He secured a 4:57 pace for 6.25 miles, finishing the 25 laps around the track in 30:48.88, not only the best time in New England, but the sixth-best showing in NCAA Division III in 2021. 

Michael Balestra continued his win streak in the hammer throw. The junior easily sealed his victory with a 47.71-meter performance, 14.43 meters ahead of second-place finisher, teammate Matthew Sambuceti (34.28). Michael Power was also in the seven-thrower field and had a 20.32-meter throw. 

Sambuceti and Power competed in the discus as well. The former finished sixth with a 29.38-meter showing, while the latter sealed up 10th place with a 23.28-meter toss. 

Power rounded out his day with a seventh-place finish in the shot put behind a 9.86-meter toss.  

In his first outing of the season, Robert Solari sealed up second in the 200 with a time of 23.88. 

Suffolk had a five-runner contingent in the 1500. Hunter Toyoda paced the pack with a personal-record time of 4:19.56 to take third. Justin Turner placed in the top 10 as well with a time of 4:27.01, which was good for seventh. Conor Garrity (4:30.17) and Jacob Dubin (4:33.89) crossed the line one after another to take 10th and 11th, respectively. Nic Malm competed the Rams runner in the event with a 13th-place showing on a time of 4:41.18. 

Cole Bolduc led the Rams in the 800. The sophomore placed third with a time of 2:02.86. Kely Maloney was closely behind, finishing the two laps in 2:03.41 to take fourth with Arthur Lacerda finishing ninth thanks to his time of 2:11.99. 

Bolduc, Garrity, Lacerda and Malm teamed up for a third-place performance in the 4x400 relay. The foursome combined for a 3:37.90 to finish in the middle of the six-team pack. 

The Rams are back in action Sunday, April 25 at their own meet, the Suffolk Invite at Hingham High School.
