Outdoor Track & Field Set to Compete at Gordon Invite Again Saturday


BOSTON – Suffolk men's and women's outdoor track & field will head back to Wenham, Massachusetts this weekend for the second Gordon Invite Saturday, April 17. The event, which features the host Gordon, Nichols, Salve Regina, and Roger Williams, has a 10 a.m. start time.

LAST TIME OUT [ MEN ]
Suffolk men's outdoor track & field recorded regional ranked performances at its 2021 season opener, the Gordon Invite, Saturday at the Brigham Athletic Complex.  

The Rams were represented in eight different events, two of which they won.

LAST TIME OUT [ WOMEN ]
Suffolk women's track & field participated in its first event since 2019 Saturday afternoon as the Rams lifted the lid on its scheduled at the Gordon Invite at the Brigham Athletic Complex.  

Suffolk won eight of the nine events a Ram competed in and set two program records.

RAMS REIGONAL RANKS
The Suffolk women's outdoor track & field team saw its name in the regional rating index for the first time in program history as the list was released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.

CCC ACCOLADES
Back in action for the first time in nearly two years, Suffolk women's track & field did not disappoint as three Rams garnered four weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Amanda Walden swept the track awards with CCC Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week nods, while Allison Rodrigues and Grace Dreher were named field athlete and rookie of the week, respectively.

THE FIELD
Suffolk will see new competition in CCC foes Nichols, Salve Regina and Roger Williams, while facing Gordon for the second straight Saturday.

"I'm excited to see what the rest of the conference looks like as we look to build upon momentum of our first meet," head coach Will Feldman said. "After this weekend we should have a good sense of where we stand within the new conference."

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS [ MEN ]

  • Michael Balestra looks to continue to climb up the national leaderboard in the hammer throw. He enters Saturday's showdown at 33 with a 50.34-meter toss.
  • Cole Bolduc has his eyes on the 800M program record after sealing his spot as the 400M record holder a week ago, but Kely Maloney may give him a run for his money.
  • Matyas Csiki-Fejer will run his first-ever 10K as he attempts to punch his ticket to NCAAs.
  • Robert Solari is scheduled to make his debut in the 200.
  • Justin Turner and Hunter Toyoda will try to build upon the momentum of their personal records from a week ago as the sophomore and junior run the 1500 for the first time this year.

RAMS TO KEEP AN EYE ON [ WOMEN ]

  • Nicole DiBenedetto will make her season-debut in the high jump.
  • Sydney Fogg is set to make her 5K collegiate debut and solidify her position as one of the top distance runners in the CCC.
  • Allison Rodrigues is aiming to sweep all four throwing events for the second time in as many weeks.
  • Megan Qualters will pole vault for the first time since the 2019 GNAC Championships.
  • Amanda Walden, the reigning CCC Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week, will once again compete in the 100 and 200, which she won a week ago behind a time of 13.08. The freshman will look to inch closer to the 100M record of 12.56 by Mariama Kamara '20.

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams have one final non-championship meet on its schedule, the Suffolk Invite. The blue-and-gold will play host Sunday, April 25 at Hingham High School in Hingham, Massachusetts.
