Men’s Track & Field Takes Eighth at Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Over the weekend, the Suffolk men's track & field team put together an eighth-place showing at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational. 

The Rams wrapped up eighth-place out of 20 teams with a team score of 24, while Bridgewater State won the title behind a combined tally of 164.  

Once again it was freshman standout Maytas Csiki-Fejer with the standout performance. The rookie topped the 28-runner, 800-meter run field with a time of 2:00.05.  

Suffolk was also represented in another long-distance event, the 1500-meter run, as Hunter Toyoda and Keoni Geers. The freshman pair each finished inside the top 15 out of 34 competitors. Toyoda's time of 4:26.77 put the Kirland, Washington local in eighth, while Geers' came in 13th behind a time of 4:37.18.  

When it came to sprints, the Rams entered student-athletes in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Nicholas Nunezran the 200 in a time of 25.81, while the quartet of Robert Solari (9th, 53.98), Arthur Lacerda (19th, 56.63), Ben Cvitkusic (22nd, 57.14) and Justin Patten (22nd, 57.14) were among the 34 participants in the 400.   

The blue-and-gold combined its talents to form a 4x800 meter relay team as well to wrap up the track portion of the meet.  

In the field, Michael Balestra was the standout Ram with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw behind a 47.90-meter toss.  

Solari competed in the high jump in addition to the 400-meter dash. The freshman cleared a 1.72-meter height to claim ninth.  

Michael Power and Matt Sambuceti both tried their hands in the discus throw and the shot put. Sambuceti finished ahead of Power in each event. The junior tossed the disc 25.15 meters and the shot put 10.17 meters. Power, meanwhile, put together a 25.15 discus throw and a 10.08 shot put performance.  

Suffolk is back in action this weekend when it takes its talents to the Granite State for the Penman Relays hosted by Southern New Hamphisre in Hooksett, New Hampshire.
