Men’s Indoor Track & Field Competes at Beacons Invitational

BOSTON – Suffolk men's indoor track & field wrapped up first semester action at the Beacons Invitational Saturday at the Track at New Balance. 

REGIONAL RAMS

  • In his first event of his senior season, Luke Sikora secured a spot at NCAA Division III New Englands in the 1000.  

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Turner Mitchell logged top-15 finishes the 60 and 200. In the 60, he clocked a 7.37 to take 15th in the 40-runner field. He finished his half lap around the track in 23.65 to take 14th in the 46-runner field. 
  • Mitchell clocked a 56.18 in the 400 to take ninth, one spot ahead of John Avakian (56.31).
  • Kely Maloney finished on the podium in the 500. With a times of 1:10.33, he took third in the 16-runner field. 
  • Sikora (2:35.58) and Evan Wright (2:38.04) placed one after another in the 1000, in second and third, respectively, both with personal records. 
  • Thomas Novy paced the seven-Rams contingent in the mile. The junior topped the 25-runner field with a 4:27.38. Hayden Green (4:30.75) and Cam Fredette (4:36.27) took third and seventh, respectively. 
  • Novy won the 3000 as well. He clocked an 8:59.30 to finish first in the 10-runner field that featured Connor Hayward (9:23.24), Fredette (9:24.77) and Green (9:33.70). Hayward and Fredette claimed fourth and fifth, respectively, and Green placed seventh. 
  • Carter Nevulis slid into second in the 60 hurdles (8.78).  

POLE VAULT POSITIONS

  • Joshua Catino (3.45) and Campbell (3.30) represented the Rams in the pole vault and took first and second, respectively.

JUMPERS JIST

  • Nevulis claimed fifth in the long jump behind a leap of 6.04. 

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Eddie McCarthy finished 10th in the shot put with a 10.54-meter heave.

RAMS RECORDS

  • Mitchell rewrote his personal-best in every event he competed; 60, 200 and 400. 
  • Ioan Pereira notched career-highs in both of his events, 60 and 200. 
  • Owen Campbell tallied a PR in the 60 (7.85). 
  • Sikora (2:35.58) and Wright (2:38.04) both produced career-highs in the 1000. 
  • Novy registered a career-high in the mile (4:27.38). 
  • Michael Najarian produced a personal-best of 5:17.09 in the mile. 
  • Hayward had a PR in the 3000 (9:23.24). 
  • Catino contributed a career-high in the pole vault (3.45). 

YOU'RE NEW HERE

  • Three Rams got their indoor collegiate campaigns underway in Jose Rivera (60, 200), Fredette (mile, 3000) and Michael Frodelius (long jump). 
  • Senior captain Maloney competed in the 500 for the first time in his collegiate career.
  • Green raced the mile for the first time in his collegiate career.

Suffolk returns to action in the New Year, Saturday, Jan. 13 when it hosts the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational at the Track at New Balance.
