BOSTON – Suffolk men's tennis gets its Commonwealth Coast Conference calendar underway with back-to-back league battles. First, the Rams will tangle with Gordon, Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts, before hosting Nichols Saturday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. at Belmont Hill in Belmont, Massachusetts.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's tennis dropped an 8-1 non-conference decision to Saint Joseph (Conn.) Monday at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk is 0-2 on the year after losing at Rhode Island College, 7-2, and Saint Joseph (Conn.), 8-1.  

Nicholas Komari has played as the Rams ace. He is unbeaten in singles play at 2-0. Mehdi Mered also sports an undefeated singles mark at 1-0 in the second slot. 

The blue-and-gold has yet to record a point via doubles play. Suffolk has used two different teams as the top tandem, both of which have included Komari. The freshman has partnered with Hasan Esrawi and Matthew Gallego once.  

FIGHTING SCOTS FACTS
Gordon is 3-6 on the year. The Fighting Scots have been idle since March 22 when they bested Colby Sawyer, 5-4.  

Ezekiel Hall has played most matches as No. 1 in singles. He sports a 5-3 record. Double wise, he has been the main ingredient to the top double teams joining Jeffrey Bodner (2-2) and Joshua Noel (2-3). 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is 4-5 against Gordon since 2003. 
  • The Rams have fallen in four straight matches with the Fighting Scots including last season's 9-0 setback March 24, 2023. 
  • The blue-and-gold is in the hunt for its first win over Gordon since a 6-3 triumph March 29, 2007. 
  • Suffolk is 0-2 against Gordon in the Scott Blanchard era. 

BISON BREAKDOWN
Nichols snapped a four-match losing streak with a 9-0 shutout over Wentworth to bring a 3-7 overall record and 1-0 CCC mark into the weekend. Prior to facing Suffolk Saturday night, the Bison will host Emerson Saturday afternoon. 

Nichols has used three different players on the first singles court in Yannick De Vet (2-0), Trevor Schwarzmann (0-2) and Leon Zeis (1-4). 

In doubles action, six different pairs have combined forces for the top doubles team. Zeis is a usual factor on court one doubles as he has combined with Yannick (1-2), Kerem Subasi (1-0), Schwarmann (0-1), Richard Hartmann Zuzio (0-1) and Enzo Matos Balleux (0-2). The last pair to compete at No. 1 doubles for the Bison was Hartman and Cai Dieckmann (0-1). 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk trails the all-time series, which dates back to 1969, 4-12. 
  • The Rams have fallen in seven straight matches against Nichols. 
  • Suffolk aims for its first win over the Bison since a 7-2 decision April 29, 1995. 
  • As the home team, the Rams are 2-3 against the Bison. 
  • As the away team, Suffolk is 2-9 versus Nichols. 
  • There have been five shutouts in the series, all belong to the Bison. The last two meetings between Suffolk and Nichols have ended in 9-0 decisions in the Bison's favor.

CCC OPENERS

  • The Rams are 1-1 in CCC debuts in program history.
