Men’s Tennis Drops Season Opener at Rhode Island College, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Suffolk men's tennis fell in its 2024 season debut to Rhode Island College, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Center. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams fell behind 0-3 after doubles play concluded as the Anchormen swept the tandem courts.  

RIC quickly locked up the decision with single victories on courts five, six, four and three in that order to make it a 7-0 match. 

Nicholas Komari pushed the blue-and-gold on the board with his 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over Noah Morin in the first position. 

From the second spot, Mehdi Mered defeated Josh Brien, 6-3, 6-4, for the 7-2 final match score.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk moved to 5-9 in the first match of the season since 2009. 
  • The Rams battled against the Anchormen in the first match of the year for the first time dating back through 2009. 
  • The blue-and-gold lifted the lid on its campaign on the road for the third straight season. 
  • Suffolk dipped to 8-5 against RIC in the all-time series through 2009. 
  • Komari, Duggan, Amin and Singh-Sisodia all made their Suffolk debuts.
