Men’s Tennis Falls to Salve Regina in Season Finale, 6-3

WINCHESTER, Mass. – Suffolk men's tennis capped off its 2022 regular-season, its first in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 6-3 setback to Salve Regina Saturday at the Winchester Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Salve Regina jumped out to a 2-0 lead as it won the first and third doubles court, respectively. Matthew Gallego and Dylan Katz combined efforts Suffolk on the board as the blue-and-gold's second doubles team secured an 8-7 (7-1) tie breaker win over Samuel Johnson and Riley Kehoe.  

As the match transitioned to singles play, Juan Velasquez leveled the playing field at 2-all when he downed Johnson, 6-0, 6-2, on court five. 

The Seahawks set up match point, 4-2, as they captured triumph from the top two singles positions.  

Once again Gallego's racket came up big as he kept the Rams in it when he downed Kehoe, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4.

Suffolk's winning chances came to a halt when Haik Semerdjian fell to Jack Cooper, 6-4, 6-0, in the sixth slot, which sealed the setback. 

Raimundo Bascunan defeated Diego Hernandez-Pons, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, for the 6-3 final.
