Men's Tennis Bests Wheelock to Earn First Win of Season

BOSTON- The Suffolk men's tennis team notched its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon taking down Wheelock 7-2 at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.

Coming off a 9-0 loss to Wentworth in Thursday night's season opener, Suffolk (1-1) got off to a fast start as Alonso Vela and Francesco Saia swept the first two sets in singles play.

Wheelock's Jordan Bernard edged Jacob Duggan 6-4 and 7-5 in the third set before Chris Parnagian, Kevin Clavijo and Vincent Le went on to take the final three.

The Rams also came out on top in all but one set in doubles play with the pairs of Vela and Saia, along with Anton Boubnov and Rami Esrawi each recording wins. Vela and Saia defeated Wheelock's Arvin Hedayaty and Matthew Brown 8-2 while Boubnov and Esrawi were victorious by a score of 8-1.  

Saturday's matchup marked the first time the Rams and Wildcats have met in each of their program histories. The Rams will go on to host Rhode Island College Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
