Men's Tennis Cruise Past Norwich 8-1

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Sophomore Calixto Romero (Lima, Peru) took the number one singles game in a match of unbeaten as he defeated the Cadets' Christian Hoskey, 6-1, 6-4. Romero moves to a perfect 9-0 on the season as the loss sets Hoskey back to 8-1.

Romero was one of five Suffolk players to earn multiple victories on the day. Earlier in the afternoon he partnered with junior Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela) for an 8-1 doubles victory. Winker was later a winner in the number two singles game posting consecutive 6-2 scores after dropping the first set 6-3.

Seniors Aaron Lau (Hong Kong, China) and Drew Reilly (Boston, Mass.) each earned a pair of victories on the day. The duo combined for an 8-4 victory in doubles match number two. Reilly would take game number three in singles play by 6-1 and 6-2 set scores as Lau was victorious in match number four with 6-0, 6-1 wins.

Senior Vassili Stroganov (Hoersholm, Germany) picked up his seventh singles victory of the season when he won match number five in 6-1, 6-0 sets. Stroganov was also a victor in the third doubles game as he and freshman Francesco Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) were 8-7 winners.

Saturday's win improves Suffolk to a 7-2 record on the year.

They will host Anna Maria College in their final GNAC regular season match on Monday evening.
