Men's Tennis Fall to JWU, 6-3

The Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales took two of the three doubles matches for the 2-1 lead. Sophomore Jason Chavenson (Upper Dublin, Pa.) teamed with junior Jake McGuire (Great Mills, Md.) for a perfect 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.  Chavenson later picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles for the Wildcats. The team of freshman Grzegorz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Jorge Mancebo (Santiago, Dominican Republic) posted an 8-2 victory at third doubles with Mancebo earning his second win on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the fourth singles spot.

Calixto Romero and Drew Reilly posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles for Suffolk.  They each had wins in singles play for the Rams with Romero notching a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 1 while Reilly had a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play.  The Wildcats return to action on Monday, April 14th when they travel to Anna Maria for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest starting at 7:30 p.m.
