Men’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk men's soccer's regular season finale ended in a scoreless stalemate at Roger Williams Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Bayside Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams came out hungry in the first half, outshooting the Hawks, 6-2, placing half (3) of their shots on goal.   

Suffolk's best chance came with just over one minute remaining before halftime when Pierre Willis fired back-to-back shots at Roger Williams keeper Jack Avellar. The Hawks' goalie denied both attempts and the teams would go into the break locked in a scoreless tie. 

Momentum turned in Roger Williams favor out of the locker room as the host outshot Suffolk, 9-3 and put three of those attempts on target. Xander Balog stopped them all to preserve the crucial conference point.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Balog registered five saves in the shutout. 
  • Avellar had four stops in the tie.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Roger Williams edged Suffolk in shots, 11-9, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Both teams took four corners.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Today's stalemate was the first non-losing result for Suffolk versus Roger Williams all-time. 
  • The Rams are now 0-4-1 all-time against the Hawks. 
  • Suffolk moved to 0-3-1 versus Roger Williams under Bill Maddock's guidance. 
  • With tonight's decision, four of the five meetings between Suffolk and Roger Williams have been shutouts. Suffolk is 0-3-1 in such instances. 
  • Balog logged his fourth shutout of the year, 16th of his collegiate career.
