Men’s Soccer Storms Past Mass. Maritime, 4-0

EAST BOSTON – Three different Rams scored and five student-athletes recorded at least one point, while Nathan Harlow made seven saves en route to Suffolk men's soccer's 4-0 triumph over Mass. Maritime in non-conference action at East Boston Memorial Park's James A. Sartori Stadium Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams wasted littled time to get on the board as Francisco Valck potted the first goal of the day with help from Jack Phelps 2:30 into the action. Just about 2:30 minutes later Valck set-up Carter Van Buskirk for a strike to quickly double the distance.  

Suffolk's two-goal advantage stayed still at half time as Harlow picked up all three shots the Buccaneers put on target. 

Just like the first half, Valck scored two minutes into the second stanza. This time the freshman used help from Van Buskirk to stretch the cushion to 3-0. 

Erik Van Even etched his name on the scorecard in the 71st minute when he found the back of the net with an assist from Jeremy Cooke to extend the edge to four. 

Harlow took care of his business in the cage to preserve the 4-0 shutout for Suffolk.  

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Harlow had seven stops in the cleansheet. 
  • Payton Neale registered four saves in the setback. 
  • Aidan McDonagh played 3:04 of relief.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Valck powered Suffolk's scoring. He had a hand in 75 percent (3-4) of the Rams' four goals. He scored two assisted on another. 
  • Van Buskirk registered one goal and one assist. 
  • Van Even provided one goal. 
  • Phelps and Cooke contributed one assist apiece. 
  • Both teams had 16 shots. 
  • The Rams put eight shots on target, while MMA put seven shots on net. 
  • The Buccaneers took four corners compared to Suffolk's one. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk recorded its fourth shutout of the season, second straight. 
  • The Rams moved to 6-10-1 all-time against Mass. Maritime. 
  • Suffolk defeated the Buccaneers for the third straight meeting; all three victories have come via shutout. 
  • With tonight's win, there have been five shutouts in the all-time series between Suffolk and MMA. Suffolk moved to 3-2-0 in such instances. 
  • Suffolk is unbeaten, 3-0-0, against Mass. Maritime with Bill Maddock on the bench.
  • The blue-and-gold has never given up a goal to MMA with Maddock on the sidelines. 
  • Suffolk has outscored MMA, 15-0, in the last three meetings. 
  • Valck netted his first collegiate goal. 
  • Valck logged a career-high five points. 
  • Valck has pitched in points in the last two games. In that span he has two goals and two assists.

  • Harlow tallied a career-high seven saves in his second collegiate shutout.
