Men’s Soccer Announces 2023 Captains

BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer will have a pair of Rams share the leadership role for the second consecutive campaign as head coach Bill Maddock named senior Jack Phelps and junior Taj Jensen co-captains.

The twosome, who begin their first term as co-captains, follow in the footsteps of Dai Podziewski and Trevor Murdock as the second set of Rams to wear the 'C' in the Maddock era.

Phelps received All-CCC Second-Team status a year ago. The defensive midfielder from Westborough, Massachusetts was a crucial cog in Suffolk's backline, starting all 21 of the Rams contests and aided in the record-setting nine shutouts.

Jensen, a midfielder from Providence, Rhode Island, contributed 10 points to Suffolk's 39-goal offense in 2022. He chipped in three goals and four handouts, good for a share of third on the squad.

The duo were crucial cogs in last season's CCC title tilt run. Over the course of the regular season they were every day starters that helped the Rams go 4-2-3 versus conference counterparts to lock up the fourth seed and tournament hosting rights.

In the quarterfinals Jensen assisted on the game-tying goal in double overtime to force a shootout with Salve Regina. Both Phelps and Jensen netted their shots to help send Suffolk to the semis where the shutout then-No. 23 Endicott, 2-0. The blue-and-gold fell short in the championship at Roger Williams, 2-1, and the duo look to help change that outcome this season.

Suffolk is on the eve of its 2023 debut, a cross city clash at Emmanuel Friday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
