BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer 2022 regular-season closer is a pivotal Commonwealth Coast Conference contest at Salve Regina Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The Rams and Seahawks enter the tangle tied in the CCC standings with home field advantage in the playoffs on the line Tuesday night.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's soccer defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College 2-0 in a game that was controlled by the Rams defense at Brigham Complex Saturday afternoon.

WHERE WE STAND

  • At 4-2-2 Suffolk enters the final CCC clash of the regular-season with a two-way tie for fourth place with Salve Regina, the Rams Tuesday night opponent. 
  • The victor of the outing between the blue-and-gold and Seahawks will likely grab the fourth seed in the 2022 CCC Men's Soccer Tournament. The losing team, meanwhile, will likely dip to fifth. 

2022 CCC STANDINGS

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk reentered the win column Saturday with a 2-0 shutout over Gordon to bring a 9-5-3 overall mark and 4-2-2 league ledger into Tuesday.  

The Rams' 32-goal offense has been spread out this season. Carter Van Buskirk is the lone player in blue-and-gold to surpass double-digit points with a team-best 12-point stat line evenly divided between goals (4) and assists (4). Tommy Handelsman (2g, 5a), Taj Jensen (3g, 3a) and Brady Sorensen (4g, 1a) have been consistent contributors on the attack as well.  

Xander Balog has played every game in net for Suffolk. He boasts a 1.18 GAA and. 783 save percentage with eight shutouts over 17 games for a 9-5-3 record. 

SEAHAWKS SAYINGS
Salve Regina sits 8-3-5 on the year and 4-2-2 in conference contests.  

The Seahawks have been held scoreless in their last two games, however, their offense has found the back of the net26 times this season. Jordan Borges and Kendy Price are the main ingredients to SRU's offense. Borges has four goals and six assists for a team-high 14 points, while Price owns six strikes and one set-up for 13 points. 

In net Nathan Reid is the Seahawks go-to goalie. He holds a 0.92 GAA and .810 save percentage in 12 games played. The senior netminder has kept five foes off the board and brings in a 6-2-4 record. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Salve Regina have met seven times since 2010. The Rams have yet to defeat the Seahawks, 0-7-0. 
  • The foes last battled Sept. 25, 2021 in Boston. Suffolk fell in that outing, 3-0. 
  • The series is nearly even between home (0-4-0) and away (0-3-0) bouts. 
  • Three games have been decided in shutout. The last came a year ago in Boston. 
  • The blue-and-gold has been outscored by Salve Regina, 27-9, all-time. 
  • Suffolk's most goals against the Seahawks came Sept. 19, 2016, a 4-3 setback. 

EYES ON THE GAME

RAMS RECORD
With its 2-0 win at Gordon Saturday, Suffolk recorded its eighth shutout of the season, which marks a program-record of shutouts in a single-season according to the Rams game-by-game record book that date through the 2003 campaign.  

All eight shutouts this year have come behind the gloves of sophomore Xander Balog

Under Bill Maddock's guidance, the blue-and-gold has kept 15 foes off the board over two seasons.

Following the conclusion of Tuesday night's action across the league, the 2022 CCC Men's Soccer Tournament seedings will be unveiled with the play-in game scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 27 at the seventh seed and the quarterfinals on tap at the top four teams on Saturday, Oct. 29.
