Men’s Soccer Secures Spot in CCC Tournament as Eighth Seed

BIDDEFORD, Maine – In its first year in the league ranks, Suffolk men's soccer's quest for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship stays alive as the Rams earned the eighth seed in the upcoming conference tournament, the league unveiled Tuesday night.  

The Rams first-ever CCC tourney trip is the first for Suffolk since the 2017 season and marks the 18th time in the Rams' record books that the blue-and-gold will compete in post-season play. Suffolk vied for a GNAC crown 17 times during its time in the league from 1999-2019. 

As the eighth seed, Suffolk (8-8-1, 4-5-0 CCC) heads across town to seventh-seed Wentworth (9-9-0, 4-5-0 CCC) Thursday, Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. kick-off. The Boston and conference rivals each finished with 12 points in the standings, however, WIT earned the right to host the Opening Round game as the higher seed because of its 2-1 win over the blue-and-gold Oct. 20.  

The Opening Round is a part of the a newly adopted post-season structure that expanded the CCC tournament's size from seven to eight. With the new configuration, the top seed has been awarded a bye directly into the semifinals.  

Endicott and Roger Williams earned a share of the CCC Men's Soccer Regular-Season Championship with 22 points apiece. The Gulls earned the top seed in the 2021 tournament field thanks to its 2-0 shutout of the Hawks in the regular-season. RWU slid into the second spot and will host the victor of the Opening Round outing between the Rams and Leopards in the quarterfinals Saturday, Oct. 30. The other two quarterfinals will feature No. 6 Curry at No. 3 Salve Regina and No. 4 Gordon hosting No. 5 Western New England. 

The semifinals are on tap for Tuesday, Nov. 2 with the conference champion set to be crowned Saturday, Nov. 6 and earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
