BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer will make its first road trip of the season Wednesday, Sept. 8 as it heads across town to Fenway for a midweek match at Emmanuel. First kick at Clemente Field is set for 7 p.m.

SUFFOLK ATHLETICS 2021-22 FAN POLICY
Suffolk University Athletics, following guidance from the University's health and safety protocols, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, plans to allow fans to attend home athletic contests during the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.

Fans, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can attend games. They must be masked the entire time they are on campus, pursuant to institutional policy, and complete a health screening form at the security desk of each building upon arrival. This policy applies to home contests played on campus at the Ridgeway Building's Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, as well as the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink and the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

For outdoor outings, specifically at East Boston Memorial Park, fans are asked to respect COVID safety protocols. At this time, masks will not be mandated for fans no matter vaccinated status at outdoor venues.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's soccer wrapped up its 2021 opening week with a return to the win column in shutout fashion as the Rams blanked Lasell, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium.

RAMS RUNDOWN
At 2-1-0 Suffolk is off to its best start since 2017. The pair of the Rams victories came in shutout fashion over Mass. Maritime, 4-0, and Lasell, 3-0, with the lone defeat coming in overtime by way of Westfield State, 4-3.  

Nine different plays have recorded at least one point through the blue-and-gold's first three games. The squad's 10-goal offense output marking the most strikes through the first three outings since scoring 17 times in the first three outings of 2012.  

Six different student-athletes have found the back of the twine. Miguel Varela and Nigel Leo have three goals apiece to lead the attack. Brady SorensenJack PhelpsDai Podziewski and Erik Van Even each have potted the rock once. Assist wise, Edward Abouzeid has a knack for setting-up shots and has four assists to his credit. 

Xander Balog and Alfredo Serrano Figueroa have each defended Suffolk's goal. Balog brings in a 1-1-0 record with a 1.97 GAA and .733 save percentage. Serrano Figuero is unbeaten in net with one save in his lone appearance.

SAINTS SAYINGS
Emmanuel holds a 1-1-0 record with a 3-2 victory over Wentworth and a 3-0 setback at MIT.  

Joey Soucy is responsible for two of the Saints' three goals with Kyle Monaghan owning the other strike. Campbell Shealy has dished out Emmanuel's only assists and has two on his stat line. 

Matthew Lambonida has played every minute in net for EC. He has built a .667 save percentage and a 2.40 GAA in two appearances.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk has slipped in back-to-back battles with its Beantown rival Emmanuel to move to 11-5-1 all-time against the Saints. 
  • The Rams look to return to the win column against Emmanuel since taking a 1-0 overtime decision in 2016. 
  • Three contests have needed extra time to determine a winner. Suffolk holds a 2-0-1 record in OTA against the Saints. 
  • Four contests were cleansheets. Suffolk is 3-1-0 when one team is kept off the scoreboard when playing Emmanuel.

CCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nigel Leo of the Suffolk men's soccer team earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week after scattering seven points over the Rams' 2-1-0 week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
