Leo Locks Up CCC Player of the Week

CCC Release

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Nigel Leo of the Suffolk men's soccer team earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week after scattering seven points over the Rams' 2-1-0 week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Leo is the first player in Suffolk men's soccer history to be honored by the league after the University switched conferences in 2020-21. He is also the first student-athlete under Bill Maddock to earn a weekly award. Overall, Leo is the first Ram to pick up a player of the week nod since James Fisher took home GNAC Corvias Player of the Week Sept. 18, 2017.

Leo started his career in a blue-and-gold jersey by dishing out one assist in the season-opener, a 4-0 shutout against Mass. Maritime. Three days later, he scored a pair of goals himself, including the game-tying strike, that forced an overtime session against Westfield State. He found the back of the twine against the next day, this time scoring the game-winner, to aid in a 3-0 cleansheet of Lasell to help the Rams off to their best start since 2017.

Suffolk and Leo will return to the pitch tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 8 with a cross-city battle at Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
