Men's Soccer Have Four Named to All-Conference teams by GNAC

The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team had four representatives on this year's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference teams for the 2010 season.

Junior forward Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and senior midfielder Luis Flores (Madrid, Spain) each earned second team All-Conference honors for the Rams.

Lloyd currently leads the Rams in goals (9) and points (23). The 2009 GNAC Player of the Year has once again proven his staus as the Rams top offensive player as he leads the team with 62 shots. Lloyd currently leads the GNAC in shots per game with 5.17, while his 23 points is third and nine goals ranked fifth among GNAC scorers. Lloyd was named Player of the Week for Division-III Men's Soccer in the New England region by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on October 19. Lloyd's strong offensive week helped his Rams to two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) wins. Early that week at Emerson on October 11, the junior midfielder had three goals in a five-goal second half Suffolk rally on its way to a 6-4 victory. He then went on to score three more times, and added an assist, all off the bench in the Rams' 9-2 win over Rivier on Monday October 13. He ended the week with six goals and three assists also earning GNAC Player of the Week honors.

Flores is currently fifth on the team with 14 points, scoring four goals and adding six assists. Flores has had the flare for the dramatic scoring two game-winning goals on the seasons, none bigger than scoring the lone goal in Suffolk's 1-0 win over Emerson College in the GNAC Quarterfinals. Flores also scored the game-winner in a 2-1 double overtime victory over non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College back on September 22. Flores has twice earned GNAC Weekly Honor Roll honors this season (September 28, and November 2). Flores is currently tied for fourth among GNAC players with six assists this season.

The Rams also had a pair of midfielders earned third team All-Conference honors. Junior David Best (Westminster, Mass.) and freshman Nicholas DiCicco (Wethersfield, Conn.) were selected to the league's all-star team.

Best has not registered a point in 16 games this season, but perhaps had the biggest defensive play of the season in the GNAC Quarterfinals. With a 1-0 lead over Emerson, the Lions had a chance to tie the game with ten minutes remaining as the GNAC's leading score Jacob Lawrence (Clifton, Va.) had a wide open goal, but Best made the defensive play of the evening kicking the goal out his own net before the ball could cross over the line to preserve the victory and allow the Rams to advance.

DiCicco has also been a postseason hero for the Rams this season, as he scored the game-winning goal in the Rams 2-1 victory over top-seeded Lasell College on Tuesday afternoon. DiCicco has scored six goals this season for the Rams and has 15 points on the year as he's appeared in all 18 of Suffolk's contests this season. DiCicco was earlier recognized this season by the GNAC being named to the Weekly Honor Roll on September 28. DiCicco scored both goal's in the Rams 2-1 overtime victory over Mount Ida College that week.

The Rams continue their season in hopes of their first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship. The Rams will take on Albertus Magnus College in the finals this Saturday in New Haven, Conn. at 1:00pm. The Rams will take the nation's 20th-ranked offense into the contest with them in hopes of gaining a bid into the NCAA Regional Tournament.
