Men's Soccer Advance to GNAC Finals on Saturday

The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team (10-7-1) defeated the top-seeded Lasell College Lasers (9-8-2), 2-1 in Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semi-Finals.

Freshman Nicholas DiCicco (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the game's thirty-ninth minute to put the Rams up 2-0. DiCicco took a pass from sophomore Ben Rollins (Lee, N.H.) for his sixth goal of the season, and second game-winner.

Rollins got the Rams on the board early as he tallied his seventh goal of the year as he was setup by junior Nick Cugine (Ringefield, Conn.) for the game's first goal.

Rollins has now scored in four of the Rams last five games since coming off a shoulder injury that sidelined him for most of the season.

Freshman Matt Esposito (Wallingford, Conn.) made five saves in the win for the Rams stopping four shots in the second half. Esposito made five saves as well in Saturday's 1-0 win over Emerson to start the playoff run.

Lasell managed to make the game close as they cut the Rams lead in half as Jonathan Klippert scored for the Lasers in the game's seventieth minute.

The Lasers outshot the Rams 22-13 in the contest, but after Klippert's goal the Rams would only allow one shot in the final 19 minutes of the contest, a shot that went wide by Eric Fournier.

Suffolk would hold on and now advance to the GNAC Finals this Saturday. The fourth-seeded Rams will take on number two seed Albertus Magnus College, who were 4-0 winners over Norwich University in their matchup on Wednesday.

Albertus topped the Rams, 3-1 in their previous meeting this season on October 9. Since that game however the Rams have won five of their last six contests outscoring their opponents 20-10. It will be the Rams first appearance in the conference finals.
