Box Score

Somerville, MA - Senior Nick Celia (Hanson, MA) scored nine minutes into the game as the Suffolk University Rams (4-1-2, 1-0-2 GNAC) blanked  the St. Joseph's College (Me.) Monks (5-4-1, 2-1 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

Celia scored on a header in front of the net off of a pass from junior Luis Flores (Madrid, Spain) for his second goal of the season.

Sophomore Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) scored his team leading seventh goal of the season in the game's 72nd minute. Lloyd took a pass from senior Bernhard Lotterer (Lima, Peru) and bolted past two Monks' defenders scoring from 20-yards out. Lloyd has now scored in six of the Rams' seven games this season.

Junior goalkeeper Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, MA) picked up his first shutout of the season as he made five saves in the game for his fourth win of the year.

The Monks had 16 total shots in the game, but could not beat a Rams' defense that has now only allowed two goals in the three conference games this season.  Freshman Matt Barlion (Auburn, ME) had two of the Monks' best opportunities. The first came midway through the first half as he tried to score off of a corner kick by sophomore Timothy Davison (Danvers, MA), but the shot was stopped as Luis Flores dove in front of the net. Barlion had another opportunity with 11 minutes left in the game as he had a wide-open shot in front of the net that just sailed high of the goal.

Celia and Lloyd each had three shots on goal in the game, while Suffolk outshot the Monks 17-16.

The win was the first in three tries this season for Suffolk, who tied their previous two games. St. Joseph's (Me.) picks up their first conference loss of the year.

The Monks are off until next Saturday when they host Rivier College in a GNAC match, while Suffolk will travel to Medford to take on Tufts in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
