Men's Soccer Ties With Norwich, 1-1

Box Score

Somerville, MA - The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team (3-0-2, 0-0-2 GNAC) played to their second consecutive 1-1 draw as they tied the Norwich University Cadets (3-2-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) on Saturday evening.

Senior Chris Rivet (Harrisville, RI) scored his first goal of the season with 1:54 left in the first period as he sniped by the Suffolk defense to put the Cadets up 1-0.

Suffolk senior captain Nick Celia (Hanson, MA) scored the Rams' lone goal of the evening in the game's 56th minute on a feed from sophomore David Best (Westminster, MA) tying the game at 1-1.

Best made perhaps the best play of the evening as he saved a goal diving into the Rams net as he deflected a Cadets' headshot off of a corner kick.

Neither team could score in the two extra 10-minute frames, although both teams had their opportunities. Celia almost struck with the game-winner in the first overtime after making several moves past the Cadets' defense but his shot hit the crossbar. Norwich had their best opportunity with two minutes left in the game as they were awarded a free kick on a Rams' foul, but junior Roger Motaze's (Cameroon) shot sailed high over the wall of defenders and over the net.

Both teams had five shots each in the overtime periods, while Norwich outshot the Rams in the game 24-18.

Junior goalkeeper Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, MA) made 10 saves in the game to push his record to 3-0-2, while Norwich's Charles Maxwell pushed aside eight Rams' shots.

Norwich will play again on Wednesday as they host Middlebury College, while Suffolk will be back in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Daniel Webster College at 3:30pm.
