Men's Soccer Loses to 20th Ranked Amherst

The 20th-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team looked impressive in a 7-0 defeat of Suffolk University Sunday at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Jake Duker and Jae Heo led Amherst's charge as they combined for five goals and two assists. Duker scored three goals to go along with one assist. Heo added two goals and an assist of his own.

Duker got the ball rolling for Amherst, 3-1 overall, with a goal and an assist in the first half. The senior forward made it 1-0 in the 4th minute thanks to a Rory O'Connor assist. Duker later added an assist in the 29th minute when Ian Rothkopf gave Amherst a 2-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

The Lord Jeff's continued their potent offensive and defensive attacks in the second half scoring five goals and allowing just three Suffolk shots. After Heo made it 3-0 in the 54th minute with an unassisted goal, Duker struck again in the 60th minute on a penalty kick past the outstretched Suffolk goalkeeper Nick Woodhull. Duker capped off his night in the 72nd minute on an assist from Heo to make it 5-0.

Heo wasn't finished as he put Amherst ahead 6-0 with his second goal of the night on a Matt Lewis assist in the 75th minute. Just one minute later James Mooney finished off the Rams on a Ryan Conti assist to make it 7-0.

Amherst out shot the Rams 33-7 in the game, including 21second half shots. Woodhull had 11 saves on the night for Suffolk. Jeff Grover had five saves for the Lord Jeffs in 64 minutes of play.

Suffolk, 1-4 overall, will look for its second win of the season when it takes on Daniel Webster Wednesday at 4 pm in the final game of a three-game home stand.
