BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey will cap off the first portion of its 2023-24 schedule Friday, Dec. 8 when it pays Southern Maine a visit for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's hockey went goal-for-goal over the first two periods. Neither the Rams nor the Golden Bears were able to gain the edge in the third or the five-minute overtime to have the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest end in a 3-3 deadlock Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center. WNE went on to grab the shootout, 2-1.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk snapped an eight-game skid this weekend with a 4-3 win over Western New England Friday, before tying the Golden Bears Saturday to move to 2-9-1 on the year.  

Devin Lowe has surpassed double digits in points to lead Suffolk's 28-goal offense with three goals of his own and a team-best eight handouts. Carter Schram has an evenly divided eight-point stat line of four goals and four assists. Joe O'Brien rounds out the top trio in points with seven on one marker and six assists. 

Kannon Flageolle (3.99 GAA, .897 save%) and Chris Jackson (4.54 GAA, .854 save%) have split time in net, each plyaing seven games.  

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HUSKIES
Southern Maine skated past Vermont State Castleton, 7-4, Saturday to move to 4-5-1 on the season.  

Austin Marini (4g, 7a) and Nolan McElhaney (8g, 2a) have each hit the double figure point plateau with 11 and 10, respectively, to anchor the Huskies 32-goal scoring.  

Kyle Penton (3.60 GAA, .891 save%) and Mason Palmer (4.39 GAA, .872 save%) have shared the bulk of the work load in between the pipes. Penton is the more successful with a 3-3-0 ledger, while Palmer holds a 1-2-1 mark and is responsible for Southern Maine's lone shutout.         

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk has fell in seven straight games against USM to dip to 7-10-1 all-time against the Huskies. 
  • Suffolk and USM renew a rivalry, meeting for the first time since Feb. 1, 2020, a 4-0 loss for the Rams. 
  • The Rams look for their first win over the Huskies since a 3-2 decision Dec. 9, 2006. 
  • Suffolk and USM have played in overtime twice in the all-time series. 
  • The Rams are 0-1-1 when needing an extra session against the Huskies.

RAMS RECOGNITION
Jake Grace of the Suffolk men's hockey team picked up CCC Rookie of the Week after a two-goal effort in a 1-0-1 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday.

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams will be idle until Jan. 5-6 when they are scheduled to compete at the 58th Codfish Bowl. Suffolk will take on Connecticut College Friday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. and will face either Worcester State or UMass Boston Saturday, Jan. 6.
