BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey gets its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) calendar underway this weekend with a home-and-home series with Salve Regina. The Rams will travel to Middletown, Rhode Island, Friday, Nov. 3 for a 7 p.m. puck drop at St. George's Rink, before welcoming the Seahawks to Louis E. Porraozzo Memorial Skating Rink Saturday, Nov. 4 for a 2:50 p.m. showdown.

SUFFOLK SCORES

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk sits 1-1-0 on the year after splitting its opening-weekend with a 6-2 setback to Albertus Magnus and a 7-5 triumph over Salem State.  

Joe O'Brien has factored into six of the Rams' nine goals this season with the freshman scoring one himself and assist on a team-best five others. Graduate student Devin Lowe is right on O'Brien's heels with five points behind two goals and three helpers. Carter Schram has found the back of the net twice as well and handed out one assist for three points.  

Kannon Flageolle has played the bulk of time in net, appearing in both games this season thus far. The rookie holds a 4.14 GAA and .887 save percentage with 63 saves to his credit. 

SEAHAWKS SAYINGS
Salve Regina won the season-opening Buffalo State Tournament with a 6-1 win over Arcadia and a 7-2 decision at Buffalo State to bring an unbeaten 2-0-0 mark into the weekend action.  

SRU poured in 13 goals over its first two games. Matthew Fawcett leads the way individual with a split six-point stat line between goals (3) and assists (3). Johnny Mulera's four points sit second on the squad with the quartet of Wlater Baumann (1g, 2a), Seth Benson (3g), Joseph Kile (1g, 2a) and Garrett Szeremley (1g, 2a) share third with three points apiece.  

Cayden Bailey has played and started both games in net for the Seahawks. The junior netminder boasts a 1.50 GAA and .950 save percentage. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Suffolk, Salve Regina series dates back to the turn of the century, 2000. 
  • The Rams trail the all-time series, 11-18-4.
  • Suffolk looks to snap a three-game skid against the Seahawks. 
  • On the road, the Rams are 5-11-1 versus SRU. 
  • At home, Suffolk is 6-7-3 against Salve Regina. 
  • The blue-and-gold has never taken down the Seahawks under Shawn McEachern's guidance.  

EYES ON THE GAME
 

CONFERENCE DEBUTS

  • In four seasons in the CCC, Suffolk has yet to win a CCC debut, 0-3-1. 
  • All four of the Rams CCC openers have come on Suffolk's home ice. 
  • Suffolk will skate as the away team in its CCC debut for the first time. 
  • A year ago, Suffolk was shutout by Salve Regina in its first CCC game of the 2022-23 season. 
  • There have been two shutouts in Suffolk's CCC debuts, both 3-0 setbacks, one to Nichols in 2017-18 and one to Salve Regina a year ago. 
  • Salve Regina and Suffolk will meet in the Rams' first CCC contest of a campaign for the first time. 
  • Along with Salve Regina, the blue-and-gold has faced Becker (L, 3-1, Nichols (L, 3-0) and Wentworth (T, 4-4), in the first CCC contest of a campaign. 

RAMS RECOGNITION
Suffolk men's hockey saw a pair of Rams scoop up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly honors after opening weekend as Devin Lowe was named Player of the Week and Joe O'Brien earned Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
