BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey hits the road for the first time Tuesday, Jan. 10 when it heads to Salem State for 7:00 p.m. non-conference action.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's hockey started the second portion of its 2022-23 schedule in the win column as the Rams skated past Franklin Pierce, 4-2, Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk grabbed its second win of the season Saturday, a 4-2 decision over Franklin Pierce, to move to 2-7-2 overall.  

Ryan Webb tops the Rams' 22-goal offense with seven points behind three goals and four assists. Griffin Clark is right behind him with his six-point stat line evenly divided between markers (3) and helpers (3). Ryan Harrigan (2g, 3a) and Max Rand (2g, 3a) have added five points apiece to the offensive output.  

Cal Wilcox has taken on the bulk of the work load in net for the blue-and-gold. In his 10 appearances, all starts, he has built a 3.18 GAA and .907 save percentage.

VIKINGS VIEW
Salem State dropped a 3-1 decision at Fitchburg State Saturday to move to 3-10-0 on the year.  

The trio of Zach Dill, Erik Larsson and Matt Yianacopolus power the Vikings 30-goal offense. Dill tops the team in every offensive category with eight goals and eight assists. Yianacopolus has dished out eight helpers as well and found the back of the net three times himself. Larsson, meanwhile, owns five strikes and seven handouts.  

SSU has used three different netminders this year in Aaron Mercer (4.67 GAA, .881 save percentage), Hunter Thomas (4.34 GAA, .890 save percentage) and Dean Hahn (3.95 GAA, .889 save percentage). Mercer and Thomas have played the bulk of the time, taking the ice in eight games and seven games, respectively. Hahn, meanwhile, has skated in a pair of contests. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Suffolk, Salem State series is fairly new, with the Rams and Vikings meeting just six times over the last nine years. 
  • The Rams have rattled off back-to-back wins over the Vikings to move to 2-2-2 all-time against SSU. 
  • Suffolk and Salem last met Dec. 10, 2019. The Rams won that game, 4-3. 
  • The blue-and-gold and Vikings have gone into overtime twice. Both OT outings in the series ended in a stalemate. 
  • The last time Suffolk and Salem State went into overtime was Jan. 3, 2018. That game finished in a 2-2 draw. 
  • At home, Suffolk is 2-1-1 versus SSU. 
  • On the road, the Rams boast a 0-0-1 ledger against the Vikings. 
  • Suffolk and SSU met on a neutral ice once, the first-ever meeting, Jan. 2, 2015. The Rams fell in that game, 4-1. 
  • The Rams will play at Salem for the second time, first since a 4-4 stalemate Dec. 8, 2016. 
  • There has never been a shutout in a game between Suffolk and Salem State.

RAMS RECOGNITION
Ryan Webb of the Suffolk men's hockey team was tabbed Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week after helping the Rams begin second semester in the win column, with a 4-2 decision over Franklin Pierce Saturday, the league office announced Monday.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk returns to its Commonwealth Coast Conference calendar this weekend with a home-and-home series against Wentworth. The Rams will host the Leopards at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink Friday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. with a rematch between the conference counterparts on tap Saturday, Jan. 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.
