BIDDEFORD, Maine – Cal Wilcox of the Suffolk men's hockey team collected Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Goaltender of the Week Monday after backstopping the Rams to a tie and league-shootout win at Western New England Friday, the conference office announced.
Wilcox, a senior captain from Pomfret, Connecticut, helped Suffolk earn a tie in its final matchup of 22 with a 33-save effort in the contest that ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Behind the netminder of Wilcox, the rams managed to claim the extra point in the conference standings with a 1-0 shootout win. The blue-and-gold goalie stopped all three shots he faced to help Suffolk secure the point.
Wilcox is the first Suffolk goalie to garner CCC Goaltender of the Week this season and first since he earned the same distinction Feb. 21, 2022. He owns three weekly awards throughout his collegiate career, all from the CCC. The weekly recognition is the second for the Rams this year as Ryan Webb earned CCC Rookie of the Week Nov. 14.
Suffolk and Wilcox will be away from competition until the New Year when they host Franklin Park at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink Saturday, Jan. 7 at 6:50 p.m.
