Nichols Sneaks Past Men’s Hockey, 4-3

EAST BOSTON – Nichols netted two goals  in a three-minute span in the third period to hand Suffolk men's hockey a 4-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) loss Saturday at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Nichols 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-3-0, 1-3-0 CCC) | Nichols (3-3-0, 1-3-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded goals in the second to keep things even at 2-all.

Gabe Temple got the scoring going for the visitors on the power play with help from Philip Bjorkman at the 7:02 mark.

Tyler Anastasi put away his own man-up marker three minutes later to level the playing field for the first time in the outing. The freshman fired a slap shot from the blue line to lock things at one at the midway point of the middle period.

The three minutes between goals continued as Damon Dulac powered an unassisted strike past Cal Wilcox to boost the Bison in front once again.

An equalizer came, however, this one took longer three minutes. The wait was worth it as Max Rand's goal at the 18:53 mark was followed up 22 seconds later with the go-ahead tally from Kevin Ouellette. Rand picked up the pieces in front of Nichols net to even matters at 2-all. Ouellette, meanwhile, received a pass from Kyle Valiquette at the edge of the right face-off dot and fired quickly to push Suffolk in front, 3-2, at the second intermission.

It was all the Bison in the third period as the visitors scored two unanswered to flip the one-goal edge in their favor.

Suffolk had plenty of time to play catchup and even added a skater with 1:32 remaining in regulation when Wilcox went to the bench. The extra player did not pay off as the only shot the Rams got off the rest of the way went wide of the cage to keep it 4-3 Nichols at the final horn.
